Do you have gum problems?
Gingivitis.
Gingivitis occurs when the infection affects only the gum, which becomes inflamed, reddened and starts to bleed. If detected early, it has an easy solution.
Treatment for gingivitis
Treatment for gingivitis consists of cleaning the bacteria that have accumulated by removing dental plaque. This treatment is called professional prophylaxis or more commonly known as oral cleaning.
It is essential to explain to the patient how to brush the teeth and gums to keep them clean, so that gingivitis does not recur.
Periodontitis.
This disease is a consequence of untreated gingivitis.
The infection penetrates under the gum forming periodontal pockets, attacking the root and the bone that holds the tooth and may even cause its loss.
It is the inflammatory process that affects the deep periodontal tissues and produces the destruction of the bone and the ligament that holds the teeth. This disease evolves destroying all the support of the tooth, so it ends up being lost.
Treatment for periodontitis
The treatment for periodontitis is an oral cleaning and subsequent scaling and root planing. Anesthesia is used and two sessions of one hour each are usually needed. With this scaling we remove tartar and bacterial plaque from the gum. It is essential to treat this problem to prevent us from even losing our teeth.
